Cambodian Children’s Fund (CCF) works to transform the lives of the most impoverished, marginalized and neglected children in Cambodia.

Since 2004, we have been working with communities based around the former garbage dump in Steung Meanchey, Phnom Penh, once the largest landfill site in Southeast Asia and one of the most toxic environments.

Starting with one child, CCF has helped hundreds of children off the streets and into education and improved the lives of thousands of families.

Through high quality education, leadership training and direct support programs, CCF is creating tomorrow’s leaders, capable of driving change in their communities, society and country.

While the dump officially closed in 2009, the area remains an entry point into Phnom Penh for destitute children and families with no option but to scavenge or beg, and demand for our services remains high.

More than two-thirds of CCF’s children once worked as scavengers. Very few had access to education and nearly all were living in extreme poverty.

Financial hardship is often the main obstacle preventing children from receiving an education. Parents cannot afford to lose a source of income by having their kids stop working and going to school.

By removing the barriers to education - providing community-based support for families and essential services such as access to free healthcare, clean water and a Food Program - we ensure that every child has an opportunity to attend school.

We believe in an education for all and have made substantial progress in addressing the challenge in Cambodia of keeping girls in education. We make sure that girls get an equal chance to be in school.  An education can provide them with a way out of poverty and put them on path to a stable and promising future. Empowered girls are now leading the way in our schools.

We believe that with the right education and support, one child has the potential to lift an entire family out of poverty, and that a generation of educated children has the power to change a whole society. These children will never experience the squalid lives that their parents and grandparents did, breaking the generational cycle of poverty.

After 15 years, the results are showing tangible evidence that our method is working.

  • CCF has helped more than 3,500 children and their families with a pathway out of poverty
  • Around 1,855 children currently enrolled
  • 70% of the first 200 students to join CCF have gone on to university
  • 12,145 community members currently accessing CCF services
