Christian Action believes that everyone has a right to seek refuge from persecution. We established our Centre for Refugees, located in Chungking Mansions, in 2003, as the first and only drop-in community centre for refugees and asylum seekers in Hong Kong.

The Centre for Refugees creates an inclusive community for refugees by fulfilling their humanitarian needs, providing opportunities for their future and empowering them to live with hope and dignity.

Drawing from over 50 years of experience serving refugees, and a collaborative relationship with the Hong Kong government and other charity partners built on trust, our Centre for Refugees is in a unique and strategic position to provide a holistic programme of care, development and empowerment for refugees in Hong Kong. Our services focus in four key areas:

HUMANITARIAN AID
EDUCATION & TRAINING
PSYCHOSOCIAL & MENTAL HEALTH SUPPORT
OUTREACH & ADVOCACY

Dear friends!

Please tune in for TONIGHT’s RTHK TV live broadcast interview to hear Centre of Refugees’ Jeff Andrews share (in Cantonese) about the predicament of refugees in Hong Kong and how they are impacted by the pandemic. Asylum seekers and refugees lack support especially during this difficult time, a gap that Christian Action continues to fill with additional food aid, and provision of masks and hand sanitisers. We also made sure refugee children have devices such as laptops and iPads to ensure they are able to stay engaged in learning from home.

RTHK will also be airing a segment (in English) featuring Naomi, whose recipes and stories are part of the Centre for Refugees’ “Displaced Cookbook” that was co-created with 15 year-old Chloe Yau, a local Hong Kong student.

Date: 22/9 (Tonight – Tuesday!)
Time: 8:30 pm
Channel: 31 (RTHK)
Programme: 830 Mag《日常8點半》
The program will also be live-streamed here: https://www.rthk.hk/tv?lang=en

Thank you!

We’re well on our way to rebuilding our community Centre for Refugees, thanks to your generosity! We’re ecstatic and extremely grateful that the Hong Kong community has rallied to help us reach beyond our initial fundraising target (and have raised over $1.2 million to date (including offline donations and pledges)) so we can start restoring our case work office and resume our full services.

Your overwhelming support will help us to also upgrade our kitchen and activity room that are part of the “Home Away from Home” for our beneficiaries where they receive food and basic necessities, mental health support, participate in education and training programs and much more.

As a small community centre with only 7 full-time and 1 part-time staff, your donations give us the ability to re-focus our manpower on what matters most, serving our 900+ beneficiaries. We can’t wait to be able to return our full focus to our mission of creating an inclusive community for refugees by fulfilling their humanitarian needs, providing opportunities for their future and empowering them to live with hope and dignity.

Thank you all again and watch out for updates on our progress!
