HELP US TODAY TO ACHIEVE OUR TARGET OF HK$55,000 TO SUPPORT OUR STAR STUDENTS

Christian Action - Centre for Refugees has aspired to help Hong Kong's refugees and asylum seekers integrate into the wider Hong Kong society. At the Centre for Refugees, we believe that education is an equalizer and a tool to open a conversation in a divided society. It is thus why over the years we have worked to improve our Education Programme which currently supports 100 students under the age of 18.  Through your generous donations and financial support from partners, we are able to provide uniforms, lunch money, stationery and transportation to our students to facilitate our academic success. Our students mostly attend local schools that cater to Hong Kong's ethnic minority population.

Asylum seekers and refugees can receive free education at local government schools from ages of 6 to 18; this leaves a gap for kindergarten aged students who are deprived of pre-preparation on par with their more privileged peers before the start of primary school. In our new partnership with Specialist Education Advisory (SEA), they are helping us seek funds for 3 of our kindergarten aged students who received a scholarship in a prestigious international pre-school.  We are so grateful to this pre-school for providing a scholarship for our 3 students. However, refugees and asylum seekers receive only 200 HKD allowance from the government for transportation and this is not enough for our students and parents to commute to school twice a day. One family lives in Tai Po so the daily commute from there to Hong Kong Island, for both child and parent, is very expensive. As the students are thriving at this pre school it is unfair to give up this opportunity simply because the commute is not affordable to them. Thus, we implore you to help these students to receive the funding to be able to attend pre-school.

Hope you can join us on 7th August where you can find out more about our Education Programme and what you can do to help support our students.

If you are unable to attend the event, there is still so much you can do to give these kids an outstanding education. We appreciate a donation, but equally we also appreciate when you make our cause your cause! Please contact Mhairi Jerga how you can partner with CFR and help champion education for all.
