More than two-thirds of low income families have seen a family member lose their job because of the effects of Covid-19.

We’re raising money to provide kits stuffed with supplies for children from underserved communities – and we’re calling on the community to get behind us. The more funds we raise, the more support we can provide to local centers and their service users. We want to give these young people a better chance to succeed this academic year. And we need your help.

For our underserved communities – low income families, children of parents who may be experiencing unemployment – the costs associated with the new academic year can bring with it the burden of financial strain, for what many would consider to be basic essentials.

At HandsOn, we assist local nonprofits and their service users year-round by providing much-needed program support and volunteer services. Through this work, we see first-hand how greatly financial hardship impacts the lives and wellbeing of Hong Kong’s most vulnerable families. Part of the strain on them can be eased by providing supplies to local nonprofits that serve them — this includes the three we’ve identified below.

受疫情打擊，本港目前逾三分之二的低收入家庭正面對家庭成員失業的問題。

牽手 ‧ 香港現正舉辦籌款活動，為低收入家庭的學童購置開學所需用品——希望大家踴躍參與，捐款支持。籌得的款項越高，受惠人士則越多。所謂工欲善其事，必先利其器，我們希望為學童提供開學的必需品，讓他們在新學年有一個美好的開始。

對於很多家庭而言，為子女購置開學用品的費用可能微不足道，但對於面臨有家庭成員失業的弱勢家庭來說，由於他們本身財政緊絀，因此為子女準備新學年的費用可謂令他們百上加斤。

牽手．香港為本地非牟利機構以及他們的服務對象提供無間斷的支援和義工招募服務。從我們的工作中能深深體會到不少低收入家庭因為面對經濟困難而帶來嚴重的身心影響。透過支持服務弱勢家庭的非牟利機構是其中一個幫助低收入家庭紓困的方法，包括以下三個與我們合作的非牟利機構。

 

How you can help

As we head into the new academic year, we invite you to help us support these community groups. HandsOn is running an appeal for the next three weeks to fund 300 ‘Back-to-School’ kits.

100% of the funds raised will be spent on securing and providing supplies such as backpacks, school shoes, notepads and pens.

Each Back-to-School kit costs HK$350 and will include the following essentials but not limited to*: 

• Backpack or shoes (as needed)

• Stationary

• Water bottle

• Lunchbox

• Board games/Art craft kits
  
  * Contents may be modified slightly depending on the requirements of each community center and their service users.

HandsOn is partnering with three local non-profits to provide these Back to School kits for the groups they serve across Hong Kong.

• The Hub Hong Kong 

• Christian Action Centre for Refugees

• The Mental Health Association of Hong Kong 

如何幫助他們

我們邀請您與我們一起支持弱勢學童。牽手．香港將在未來三週進行籌款，幫助購置最少300份開學用品。

籌得的款項將全數用於購置開學用，包括書包、學生鞋、筆記簿、原子筆等等。

每份開學用品的所需款項為350港元，禮品包將包括以下物品：

    • 書包或學生鞋（按需要而定）

    • 文具

    • 水樽

    • 飯盒

    • 桌遊或手工藝工具

      *禮品包內所含的物品將按各社區中心以及其服務對象的需要而定。

牽手．香港計劃與以下三家本地非牟利機構合作，向他們的服務對象提供開學禮品包：

    • 香港樂童行

    • 基督教勵行會重慶大廈服務中心

    • 香港心理衞生會
