More than 20% of our population lives in poverty, surviving on less than HK$4,000 each month and was struggling to make ends meet even before this pandemic. Now, with many of them living in fear and having their livelihoods impacted, they are in more dire need than ever.
At risk is the well-being of Hong Kong’s most vulnerable—such as low-income families, the elderly, people with disabilities and individuals suffering from a mental illness.
Support from the larger community is desperately needed to help these groups. Part of the burden on these individuals (and the community centres acting as their lifeline), can be eased through the delivery of relief Care Packages brought directly to the doorstep of each household by caring volunteers.
Within the HandsOn community, there is no shortage of compassionate volunteers ready to help deliver these Care Packages, but we need to raise funds for the items within them. 100% of funds raised will be spent on relief items.
We are running this appeal for the next two weeks so that we can begin purchasing items and mobilizing volunteers as soon as possible:
Each Care Package costs HK$350 and will include necessities to last each household one week*:
HandsOn is partnering with five local non-profits to implement these Care Package deliveries for the groups they serve across Hong Kong. Our goal is to raise enough money for at least 315 packs, based on the households in most urgent need of support:
* Package contents may be modified slightly depending on the requirements of each community centre and their service users.
Thank you so much in advance for your generosity—we are proud to be part of such a caring and dedicated community!
Best wishes,
The HandsOn Hong Kong Team
