Story

(The video above is the story of Elaine and Alex two of our staff at Cafe 8 and The Nest Coffee Shops)

Hong Kong's First Self-Employment Model for Individuals with Learning Disabilities

The Problem

If you are disabled in Hong Kong, you are twice as likely to live in relative poverty

  • 499,400 people with disabilities in Hong Kong
  • 61% unemployment rate
  • 147,400 disabled are living in poverty (29.5%)

The Solution - The Nest Coffee Van

EDUCATION + WORK EXPERIENCE = REAL JOBS

  • Vintage, stylish, self cotained coffee van
  • Inexpensive, easy to use and install
  • Scalable franchise model
  • Managed and operated by adults with disabilities
  • Permanently stationed at UBS office

The Dream - "I'm ready to start my own business!"

After six years of training and experience at our social enterprises, a number of our learners and staff with learning disabilities have aspirations to start their own business. This is true empowerment and we are delighted to support them in the form of a self-employment model social enterprise self-contained coffee van!

We have secured the first location for the Nest Coffee Van with our friends and supporter UBS bank in IFC Central.  This provides the ideal community location and supported environment to launch and showcase this self-employment model social enterprise.

Our existing Nest Coffee Shops, staffed by individuals with learning disabilities, are well known for friendly service and the quality of the coffee, freshly roasted in Hong Kong by an awarding winning blender.  So we are excited to share our expertise and unique experience in this new location too.

Please help support this great endeavour by donating towards the coffee van and coffee machine now.

Thank you in advance for making this dream come true!
